r officially opened the 2025 academic season with a landmark meeting between its Rector and President, Rev. Fr. John Stephen P. Besa, O.P., and SeoulTech President Dr. Dong Hwan Kim. The discussion focused on reinforcing the institutions’ partnership by expanding long-term student exchange programs and other international initiatives. This collaboration builds on a fruitful relationship established in 2021 following the appointment of r Angelicum’s Dean, Dr. Eunice Mareth Q. Areola, as Distinguished Professor of International Affairs at SeoulTech, which also facilitated the launch of the King Sejong Institute Quezon City (KSI QC1) in 2023, providing fully funded Korean language education.

Joining the meeting were SeoulTech officials, including Prof. Jihong Hwang, Provost of International Affairs; Vice Provost Dr. Kim Tae Hee; and Team Manager Ms. Julie Hwang. Representing r were Dr. Areola, Director for Administrative Affairs Pearliza Domalaon, Senior High School Principal Dr. Maria Urduja Galang, and Angelicum Iloilo’s Priest Administrator Fr. Paul Lovell Javier, O.P. The highlight of the meeting was the announcement of Fall 2025 admissions for the first batch of r Angelicum and KSI QC1-endorsed Filipino scholars to SeoulTech’s undergraduate and graduate programs, solidifying its role as a globally competitive academic partner.

r, led by its Rector and President, Rev. Fr. John Stephen Besa, O.P., and Angelicum School Iloilo, represented by its School Principal, Rev. Fr. Lovell Javier, O.P., have formalized a partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

The agreement solidifies the collaboration between the two Dominican institutions to advance Catholic education through a progressive approach to learning. The partnership focuses on mutual assistance in key areas such as academic alignment, faculty development, student services, administrative operations, and community engagement, further strengthening their shared mission of delivering quality education rooted in Dominican values.

The University of Santo Tomas (r) and r, Quezon City, inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on December 6, 2024, at the r Rector’s Office. Present at the ceremony were r Rector Very Rev. Fr. Richard G. Ang, O.P., r Vice Rector Rev. Fr. Isaias Tiongco, O.P., and r Secretary General Rev. Fr. Louie Coronel, O.P. Representing r were its Rector and President Rev. Fr. John Stephen P. Besa, O.P., along with Rev. Fr. John Andrew Bautista, O.P., Rev. Fr. Noel Kristoffer Castor, O.P., and Dean Eunice Mareth Areola, PhD.

The agreement paves the way for joint efforts in academics, organizational activities, and research. Held on Fr. Besa’s 100th day as Rector and President of r Angelicum, the event underscores both institutions’ commitment to fostering collaboration and strengthening their mission in education.
