Message from the Head

The Guidance Counseling and Testing Department provides activities that are designed to answer the needs of the learners in developing themselves in all aspects of life. It also aids them in their adjustment and leads them to responsible self-direction in solving problems accompanying growth to Christian maturity. The guidance program serves as supportive functions in the educational process. The office directs and controls activities to help each individual develop to his fullest potential.

Objectives

The Guidance Counseling and Testing Department assists in carrying out the responsibility of the school for the proper formation of the learner who is forming himself socially, morally, vocationally, emotionally, and mentally. It helps in recording, and in making available the information about each learner in order to get an insight into their personality. Specifically, it helps the learners understand their potentials, interests, as well as their weaknesses to have better relationships with people around them and to develop the necessary life skills.

In accordance with the school’s Vision Statement, the Guidance Counseling and Testing Department envisions to continuously provide quality services geared towards the empowerment of learners’ values and potentials thus, fostering an environment where learners can effectively cope with life’s demands through a deeper understanding of themselves and others.

Services

To assist in the coordination of interview schedules and administration of placement tests to learner-applicants

Procedures
  1. Life Skills Advisers/ Guidance Counselor/ Psychometrician encodes interview schedules per level based on the preferred schedules of interviewers (Team Principal, Program Chairs, or others that may be assigned by the administrators)
  2. Upon receipt of applications, Life Skills Advisers/ Guidance Counselor/ Psychometrician approve pre-interview and medical clearance submissions
Counseling

The counseling service aims to help learners resolve personal difficulties and acquire the attitudes, abilities, and knowledge that will enable them to take full advantage of the experiences to be successful.

Procedures
Routine Interview
  1. Life Skills Advisers/ Guidance Counselor sets the schedule for the Routine Interview session with learners in their level assignments. An email is sent to the learner regarding the schedule of the session as well as the details on the conduct of the Routine Interview
  2. After the session, an evaluation form will be accomplished by the learner. The Life Skills Advisers/ Guidance Counselor updates the records of the learner with notes on the session
  3. Learners needing further assistance after the Routine Interview session may be given another schedule for a follow up
Referrals
  1. The Referral is given to all learning facilitators during the orientation for them that is conducted by the Life Skills Adviser/ Guidance Counselor assigned to their level. This will be used every time they would have some learners in their class that need further assistance from the department.
  2. The Learning Facilitator needs to fill out the details in the Referral link. Once received, a confirmation email will be sent to the learning facilitator that the referral was received.
  3. The Life Skills Adviser/ Guidance Counselor reaches out to the referred learner and gives details on the schedule for a session.
  4. After the session, an evaluation form will be accomplished by the learner. The Life Skills Advisers/ Guidance Counselor updates the records of the learner with notes on the session.
  5. kThe Life Skills Adviser/ Guidance Counselor coordinates with the Learning Facilitator who referred the learner for feedback.
Appointments through the Online Guidance System
  1. For learners needing assistance, they may reach the department in two ways:
      1. Upon logging in, click on the Guidance Tab on the Menu and choose a date to request for an appointment.
      2. Standby for an email confirming the schedule and the details of the session.
      3. After the session, an evaluation form will be accomplished by the learner. The Life Skills Advisers/ Guidance Counselor updates the records of the learner with notes on the session
      1. Visit the site, upon clicking the Counseling Tab, the learner will be directed to the page where they can choose a preferred date for a session.
      2. Standby for an email confirming the schedule and the details of the session.
      3. After the session, an evaluation form will be accomplished by the learner. The Life Skills Advisers/ Guidance Counselor updates the records of the learner with notes on the session
Individual Inventory

The Individual Inventory service is a systematic way of gathering facts about the learners to better understand their needs and efficiently satisfy the learner’s requirements.

Procedures
Updating of Thomasian Angelican Portfolio (TAP)
  1. The Thomasian Angelican Portfolio (TAP) is intended to assist learners reach their full potential by coming up with a profile of each learner. It is necessary to get to know them individually to be able to utilize the data in crafting interventions and programs that will answer their needs. This plan is to be completed in coordination with the different members of the ¯r¶¹Íø Angelicum Community.

Health Records Health Services Within AY 2021-2022 depending on the schedule of the Health Services
Updating of the Cumulative Record Folders (CRF)
  1. Each learner has a Cumulative Record Folder kept in the filing cabinets in the different counseling rooms. These folders are updated annually based on enrolment records from the Registrar’s Office. This contains all documents related to the learner such as test results, counseling notes, etc.
  2. The CRF is considered ACTIVE if the learner is enrolled. INACTIVE CRFs are kept for another 5 years and after which disposed through shredding.
Request for Records/ Certifications

All requests for copies of Certificate of Good Moral Character are received through the Online Guidance System and Student Portal:

    1. Upon logging in, click on the Guidance Tab on the Menu and choose GMC Request.
    2. The learner will be directed to the Online Guidance System
    1. Visit the site, upon clicking the Forms Tab, the learner will be directed to the page where they can input details about the request.
    2. The request is processed after 3-5 working days either through email for electronic copy requests or pick up schedules for hard copy requests upon payment of the necessary fee.
Evaluation

Evaluation aims to obtain feedback from the learners, moderators/ facilitators, parents and other members of the ¯r¶¹Íø Angelicum community regarding the effectiveness of the guidance service and evaluation of the guidance activities in meeting the needs of the learners and to improve the services rendered.

Procedures
  1. An evaluation form link: https://my.ustangelicum.edu.ph/survey is provided for all participants of departmental activities for the evaluation of th activity
  2. The responses are tallied and are prepared as part of the evaluation report of the Psychometrician for every activity
  3. Part of this service is the evaluation of all Group Guidance Sessions, and other Guidance Activities
  4. The Student Satisfaction Survey is completed in coordination with the other departments under Student Services. The tool is proposed to be included in the student portal.
Research

Research engages in activities utilizing the guidance data gathered through psychological tests, values, attitudes, and evaluation of the guidance activities and services enable to formulate and implement better programs, as well as to give appropriate and relevant recommendations to administrators and faculty.

The Orientation/ Information Program is designed to make all learners, parents and learning facilitators feel a sense of belongingness to the community through understanding of the different services that the department renders.

Group Guidance

The Group Guidance program aims to promote communication, friendship and brotherhood among learners. It is designed to equip learners with the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to become effective facilitators, thus serve as the support arm of the department to the community. This program includes the following: career awareness week and guidance week celebration.

Guidance Circle

The Guidance Circle aims to provide trainings and experiences to interested learners who may give assistance and support to their peers and classmates who may be experiencing difficulties.

Career

This program aims to assist learners in choosing the right career and school for their bachelor’s degree program.

The Career Program aims to provide the learners various vocational and educational opportunities and to equip the learners with the basic knowledge of their personal capabilities needed to make a sound decision.

Testing

This program aims to assist learners in choosing the right career and school for their bachelor’s degree program.

The testing service aims to effectively assess the learner’s strengths and weaknesses as well as the individual and group needs to appropriately determine activities that shall assist the learners in their social development, personal growth and religious involvement.

Experiential Learning

Is designed to promote personal improvement among students through webinars, online workshops, group guidance activities, homeroom guidance and other training programs.

Student Life

Is designed to promote academic, career, and social/ behavioral growth of students. Student life is a time of accelerated growth, significant challenges and considerable stress. It is normal, even expected, that students will encounter difficult or stressful events. However, when students maximize the resources available to them with proper guidance there is a much greater chance of success and over-all well-being.
